Forming a family and parenting is an important part of life, with many changes taking place. Both mothers’ and fathers’ mental health may be affected during this transition, which may influence their child’s mental health. Parental mental health problems, if untreated, can affect the long-term well-being of both parents and children.

Learn how to explore themes in mental health and wellbeing with young people; encouraging them to find what works for them to be able to look after their mental health with the same emphasis that they have been taught to look after their physical health. Help young people reflect on the tools they have to deal with life's ups and downs; knowing when to ask for help and how to articulate what they need in an adult led world.

This learning module, which formed part of the Mental Health Foundation’s Covid Response Programme, provides a framework for support, guidance, and practical assistance to help lone parents build a stable and nurturing environment for their children.
